The recent NAPA Annual Conference once again brought together representatives from all IAP Associate organisations across England for an enjoyable and engaging three-day residential event in Derby. With a refreshed layout in the main conference room and the addition of a new PA system, communication and discussion was notably aided this year - as commented on favourably amongst those attending.

A varied programme of topics and speakers aimed to provide a mix of sessions with interest and relevance to the work of IAPs, and to the wider context they operate in, and was reflected by many of the positive adjectives used in the event feedback:

"Stimulating" "Well-balanced" "Interesting" "Varied topics"

Sessions included an insight into AP operations in Northern Ireland, working with the media, and an introduction to the Peace Education Programme by a lively & engaging speaker with lived experience. A split session tailored to the unique challenges of male and female IAPs was positively received as a timely opportunity to discuss issues of relevance, in particular for the female AP estate.

The conference provides a platform for networking and direct engagement with senior programme managers from HMPPS and those involved in the new AP inspection programme. Delegates appreciated their contributions with useful inputs and exchanges during the ‘open’ sessions.  Their repeat attendance confirms the value of this face-to-face opportunity to gain insight into future planning, put forward questions and to provide direct feedback on any issues encountered in practice.

"Valuable" "Instructive" "Informative" "Relevant"

The post event feedback received from delegates indicated a high level of satisfaction with the event overall, together with helpful and constructive suggestions which will be fed in to help shape the 2026 event, for which planning will start in Autumn.

"keep the split session" "well organised" "keep the new room layout" "more sharing of good practice" "really enjoyable"

A final thanks again to all our speakers, and to all of our delegates for attending and for your participation.  We look forward to seeing many of you again in July 2026.
