On behalf of NAPA, Andrew Bridges was recently invited to address a House of Commons Justice Select Committee on the broad subject of “offender accommodation”.

This took place on Tuesday 9th December and involved describing, from a ‘provider’s perspective’ what ‘CAS1’ meant, both in principle and in practice. The MPs’ main interest was unsurprisingly in homelessness as an issue for newly released prisoners, but were impressed that, in the current inspection programme, APs - both HMPPS-run and independent - were receiving positive reports.

Our thanks to Gemma Birkett, of the Elizabeth Fry charity, for suggesting to the Committee that NAPA be asked to provide this evidence.
